A band of Texian settlers crossed the Guadalupe River near Gonzales early on October 2, 1835 and surrounded Mexican troops sent to reclaim a small cannon - originally loaned to defend against Indian raids.
But instead of surrendering that cannon, the settlers sent a shot into the soldier's encampment under a homemade flag daring Mexico to COME AND TAKE IT.
When the smoke cleared, the Mexican detachment had retreated. And that cannon shot marked the beginning of the Texas Revolution.
After more than six months of fighting - with devastating losses at Goliad and San Antonio - the weary Texian army made its final stand on the marshy banks of the San Jacinto River.
On the afternoon of April 21, 1836, while the Mexican forces rested, General Sam Houston launched a gritty surprise attack. The Texians rampaged through the enemy ranks with shouts of REMEMBER GOLIAD! and REMEMBER THE ALAMO!
In just eighteen minutes, the opposition was completely overrun and crushed. Mexico surrendered and Texas secured her independence.
With that same determination and drive, 1836 Environmental provides Texas business owners with a real independent alternative.
